Drain Commissioner and the placement of Dam Sections

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

The Allegan County Drain Commissioner's Office is responsible for controlling the level of the outlet dam on Miner Lake. IN the fall they remove 1 foot (height) of dam and in the spring replace that same amount.

Historically they would remove or add all 4 sections with 1 visit. Based on feedback from residents, they have adopted an approach where they will do this is 2 steps (2 sections 1 week and 2 more a week later).

Normally they are required to remove the sections between Sept 15 and Oct. 15 and replace them between April 15 and May 15. However this spring they waited because of concern of heavy rain forecast.

The first set of sections have been added to the lake and the second set will be added early next week.
